Morally upstanding people are the do-gooders of society, right? Actually, a new study finds that a sense of moral superiority can lead to unethical acts, such as cheating. In fact, some of the best do-gooders can become the worst cheats.

Stop us if this sounds familiar.

Oddly, Hypocrisy Rooted in High Morals - Yahoo! News (broken link)

(Hmmm..... This may explain a lot.... of the mayhem that has taken place in the "Family Values" fraud that is... the modern day Republican Party, no?)

And oh, I got a kick out of this recent story - ex NY Rep. Congressman John Sweeney - a major proponent of Jorge Bush - and one time STOP DWI coordinator on his local level - is busted - for DWI! And in a strange twist, when pulled over, he had a 24 year old chick in his lap! (He's 52 yrs old, can't blame him there, but...) Oh well, good news is it wasn't a gay escort or something.... ha ha.

Lovely story here: It just gets better and better for the Repub's no?

Sweeney to cops: "This is not going to turn out good'' -- Page 1 -- Times Union - Albany NY (http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=638974 - broken link)

And check out his stellar past -

John E. Sweeney - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dems are a bunch of idiots, too... but the Republicans have the market cornered on the hypocrisy deal of late...... Hands down... It's all great theater, really. It's gotten so sad, everything, you just have to laugh in order to stay sane.

Then maybe people in Idaho will grow to understand their Senator Craig better and encourage him to change his mind and run for reelection.

Let's be honest here--(I LOVE these philosophical arguments, by the way). It seems to me that, all other conditions being equal, you'd HAVE to acknowledge some sort of belief in "High Morals" to even BE a hypocrite. Without some sort of strict moral code, there'd be nothing for the hypocrite to be hypocritical AGAINST.

It's like saying "crime only occurs in societies where there are laws". Actually, this thread hits a nerve with me personally, as I've been on an anti-multicultural rampage for some time....and that's because I don't think cultures are equal, and that we (in the liberal West) don't hold all cultures equally accountable..we're extra hard on "us", and lenient with non-Western cultures. To that extent, you could say "racism NEVER occurs in places with no diversity".....and "mistreatment of illegal immigrants NEVER occurs in nations which don't allow them to enter".

Therefore, the US is "mean" to illegals----but Saudi Arabia is NOT..(because foreigners aren't allowed to settle there).

Same relationship in THIS argument, it sems to me, as "Hypocrisy ONLY occurs in situations where there's a strong moral code". (to become a little cruder, I suppose one could say "rape sometimes occurs among humans---but is NEVER a problem among dogs and cats")......

Very insightful post. A person with low moral values or no morals gets a pass. They can't be a hypocrite.

To be hypocritical in the first place one must have a set of morals for them to contradict. Since Democrats are clearly amoral they can not be hypocrites since the concepts of "right" and "wrong" is entirely relative to them.

Berkshires413 is saying that the people who cry the loudest are the ones who are doing what they crying out that they hate.
Like the anti-gays who are secretly gay themselves.
The preachers who preach about family morals who are doing drugs and having affairs of their own.
Like the talkshow hosts who believe drug addicts should be "put in jail and have the key thrown away" who are themselves drug addicts.
It happens in both party's however, it has been mostly those in the republican party lately.
