Since this is a politics forum and not about reality trash tv , I though Id take a poll.
Does anyone here have an opinion on what's going on in Guantanamo? . Have you seen accurate information on the news?.
Khalid Sheik Muhammed, the 'mastermind' of 911 is still being held there, but US Intelligence as determined that our Justice Dept cannot be trusted to prosecute him, and our penal system in US is too weak to hold him.
No trial. No answers. Is this acceptable?. Now they are supposedly giving feeding tubes to those at Guantanamo on hunger strike, as of yesterday.
Just wondering if anyone in US wants an intelligent debate on this, and why US citizens are getting NO answers. justice and answers about 911 are due to Americans, imo.
Gitmo raises only two questions, IMO:
1. Since obama is so enamored of Executive Orders, why doesn't he fulfill his promise to CLOSE the facility by using an Executive Order to transfer the occupants to any Federal Prison in the Southeast, transfer the guards to a post where they can do some good, and tear the place down!
2. As for the "hunger strike", give each of them 3 days worth of MREs and a gallon of water and leave them alone. They will either eat or die. If they eat, obama can do as described in number one. If they die, problem solved.

We aren't trying them because we don't want certain intelligence information to get out in public.
That would mean how we are conducting surveilance, the names of foreign agents and moles as well as help provided by foreign govts that don't want to be seen as being too cozy with the west.
It's the trade-off between transparency with the public and keeping things secret.
Note that the captain that captured the sub was almost courtmartialed.
You know why? Because he didn't even know that we had already broken the German codes and capturing the sub risked them changing the codes. So they illegally detained the whole german crew for the rest of the war to cover it up and lead them to believe the sub was sunk with all hands.

What is going on there is unacceptable, and a far cry from justice. Many of those imprisoned have been freed by a court, but continue to be held 10-11 years later, with no hope of ever being released. Torture continues unabated. Their only way out is suicide, and we don't allow them to have that control either. It makes me sick what is going on there. If they continue to get away with it, there is no reason to think they won't be doing the same here, in secret prisons.

I read somewhere that since it's a military base, he can't just close it. I don't know.

Force feeding is also torture, they force a tube thru their nose into their stomach. They are in restraints during this procedure, and left that way for hours if not days.
Is this what America stands for now?
We aren't trying them because we don't want certain intelligence information to get out in public.
