+1, until campaign finance reform/special interest money are rooted out, I don't see how much of anything will change - candidates or most laws (in any meaningful way).

Parties can come and go. A party could easily break apart in the future as they have in the past like the Federalists and Whigs. The Republicans do have a bit of a unity problem as seen by the moderate wing that supported Romney and the more conservative wing that supported Sanatorium.
And then they have a smaller faction libertarian that can not stand either. Myself, it would have took a gun to the head to support either of them.

Well, according to the RW, we had a non-Republican in GW Bush and according to the LW we have a non-Democrat in Obama.
