Call it the "Ryan-Cantor Sequester". They are the people who'd rather "win" that way than solve the problem.

Thats weird because Obama said: "The sequester plan which I proposed, saw passed, and signed into law",

Are you telling me Ryan and Cantor is more powerful than the President? Wow..

Huh?

Why would they?

Congress CREATES Agency's, programs, etc. It HAS the authority to dismantle them also.

Are you claiming they did it ALL BY THEMSELVES?

This is what happens when you have a conpromise all of you are always crying for.

As soon as ther is a compromise you want to blame only one party.

Yes the repubs voted for it. So DID the DEMS and Obama SIGNED it.

Are you being ignorant, stupid or just partisan?

We cannot cut Defense spending can we? Cutting defense corporate profits would be sinful and bring the rath of Mammon down upon us. This is far more important than predicting disastrous weather soon enough to evacuate the potential victims.

It was nationalized as a system of observations back in the days of the railroad building out into the central parts of the nation as it was very important to know weather coming. Remember the great Galveston hurricane of 1900....many thousands dead.

Anyway the cost of computing power to produce model data....the cost of putting in and maintaining satellites, surface observation systems, radar, and then the communication networks so that data is sent out is immense and not something any individual state can do on its own nor any private agency.

Our job is for the protection of life and property and the role of protecting commerce in the United States. Hence its national scope.

All satellite and radar data seen and used by the media and private agencies come from the government/NWS. The government/NWS funds the satellites and built and maintain the radars and without the government no one would have anything in regards to that type of weather data. Accu Weather, WSI or others have no interest in investing the millions/billions needed to maintain such a system.

There is a severe staff shortage in some offices as many vacancies over the past year have not been filled. Eventually you can only go so long with a short staff and something will fall through the cracks.
The problem with most gov't agency's is they seem to do OK with what they are given. Then EVERY year they want more.

In tight time private businesses cut back but, oh no a gov't agency or program just can't get by WITHOUT more money every year.

Government is the most inefficient enterprise going.

Sen. Tom Coburn writes a book EVERY year showing the waste and NOTHING is done about it.

"The total amount of the sequester budget cuts amounts to 2.2% of the federal budget,"

It isn't even that. There are NO cuts. It is a REDUCTION in increases.

In other words there raise is smaller. They still get a raise just a little less then they expected.
