Rush Limbaugh insists it’s not his fault that ad revenue has dropped at his flagship WABC radio station — and if his boss keeps saying it is, Rush just may pack up his megadittoes and leave.
In New York, that would very likely take him to WOR, which would create the biggest shakeup in city talk radio since WOR scooped up Bob Grant after WABC fired him in 1995.
Limbaugh’s contract with WABC expires at the end of the year.
Lew Dickey, the CEO of WABC parent company Cumulus, has said Limbaugh’s controversial comments have diminished ad revenue for the past year — and the slump remains a “residual hangover” for the station.
Do you have a link for this fact? Be careful which one you give.....
Be careful about what? Why don't you check my posts concerning the types of sources I use before you start throwing out accusations. You're one of the last people on this board who should challenge anyone about using "facts." That's laughable.
May I suggest a Math class? 96 advertisers is not 96% unless there are ONLY 100 companies advertising. With over 20 million listeners, they are shutting themselves out.
"20 million listeners?"
Says who? Rush says. Tracking metrics says differently. At the peak of his popularity, Rush had 9 million listeners, not 20 million.
Now, 9 million ain't chump change, but that number is 15 years old. Rush peaked back up to 9 a few times since, but he's pulled consistently fewer regulars every year.
And why is that? Because his regulars are old white men. One of the demographics who buy the least amounts of goods and services. Old white men also tend to die. Chasing a diminishing and low profit demographic isn't what Coca-Cola does. None of the big advertisers do. Rush isn't going to vanish overnight, but his days are numbered.
Why? Do you have something against the freedom of speech? I'm no Limbaugh fan either, but he and the other RWNJs in the media have just as much of a right to spew their crap over the airways as the LWNJs. Or is it only OK when it's a liberal opinion?
How is the government stopping Rush Limbaugh from exercising his 1st amendment rights? Rush is free to say whatever he wants. The issue is that he wants to be paid to say it, and the advertisers have a say over whether or not they want to pay for it. They seem to be voting no.

Well, the poster I responded to seemed inclined to have his speech supressed, stating we'd all be better off for it. I understand what the advertisers are doing, and you know what, if he is still popular enough there will be others that come along.
Personally, I think that he is a wind bag, as are many other talking heads. I can choose to change the channel.

WABC is owned by Cumulus, who looks just as happy about getting rid of Rush as he is on leaving--they've had him on many stations, and not just WABC. WOR is owned by Clear Channel, who ALSO already carries Rush on a big number of their stations. It will be interesting to see how the potential move works out, because Clear Channel just reported a $203M loss on their first quarter earnings. but less than a dollar a day (1/4 the cost of a starbucks coffee) is too much for the fascist *******s
...and try selling that to the women of America. That's a perfect example of why Clearchannel and Cumulus are bleeding from their major arteries.
Women buy a lot more stuff than old white men. And, in case you haven't noticed, women don't like men telling them what they can or can't do with their bodies. Calling them floozies and fascist *******s sure as hell won't win them over, either.
But go on- tell us more. Women not only buy more, they vote more than old white men. You and Rush are perfect examples of why even conservative women are deserting the GOP.
Limbaugh burnt the last bridge when he went after Fluke. Stand by him and you both sink in the swamp.
GOP doesn't see a gift when it slaps them in the face. Of course they're not smart enough to care how many voters people like Limbaugh costs them.
Just like the left does not see how much damage Bill Maher does to their side or maybe Michael Moore does. To be very honest, none of these entertainers really do much damage. If you are a Limbaugh supporter you are going to vote one way only: if you are anti Limbaugh and you let him influence your voting you are pretty narrow minded. The same on the other side. If we vote based on our dislike for Maher or a few others, we have our heads in the sand. As for the GOP and what Limbaugh may cost them. remember a couple of things or maybe you are not even aware of this: 1-the GOP has no control over him and 2-if he is so awful, why is he one of the most popular radio figures? let me add, I do not listen to him, nor do I care for him, but some of the posters here are much worse than he ever thought of being.

The difference is that Michael Moore and Bill Maher aren't seen as being spokespersons for the Democrats. They have Obama, the Clintons, etc. etc. to fill that role. Rush IS seen that way, because of the leadership vacuum in the R party. Who do you think has a louder voice in the party than Rush? John Boehner? Eric Cantor? Karl Rove? George Bush is staying completely out of politics these days. The problem is that there's no real leadership so Rush rises to the top. Limbaugh is very popular with the far right conservative base of the R party. As you well know, it takes more than those folks to win elections. If you turn off everyone else. you're going to lose. Rush is also pretty quick to attack, and attack hard, any conservative who disagrees with him--that's why you've had people like George Will and Colin Powell being very upfront about saying that most conservative politicians are afraid of taking him on.
