You're now providing subsidized health care to ALL your welfare recipients with that segment of your population growing by leaps and bounds. All those folks in prison getting free health care. All those government employees, with more being created daily with things like Homeland Security and TSA coming along in an effort to convince you everything will be alright if we just create another sink hole for taxes to go down.

You think there is no incentive out there for all of these folks to roll the dice and make a conscious decision to stay in one or the other of your systems providing this stuff if they've already got a health problem? Tell any one of them the first hospital stay they encounter due to a pre-existing condition upon getting off the welfare rolls, out of the military or out of jail will very likely ruin them and what do you think they'll choose to do?

Keeping your medical system excluded from those provided items from taxation and a brass ring to be grabbed at by the fortunate will simply have you paying for all those others whether you want to or not.

Yes it's really that simple; you're getting to the point where arguing over a 'universal system' is nearly redundant. You're getting one regardless. All the p[ointless bitching just means you aren't taking an active part in how it will be designed by abrogating that to your elected reps who'll only listen to the lobbyists and who also, are not affected. Theirs is gold plated!

While they've got you at each others throats, more and more of your citizens are either being provided with free stuff or they soon will be. It's happening right in front of your eyes!
The issue most people have with a universal health system is
1. Cost to run it. No politician wants to come out and say taxes with go up for everyone. Including their voting base
2. Too many middle guys as u say involved.

Look at the ACA. Already the tax provision that was passed in 2010 by the ACA for device manufacturers. The Dems are already passing legislation to overturn the same tax they passed in 2010.

You need to learn that the EIT was passed in 1975 and signed into law by President Gerald R. Ford a Republican President has a tax cutting reform.

All I can say is, I'm really glad to see the majority believes everyone should have health care. Finally!

After all, if someone wants "special" care, you can always pay a private service. Others who are so privileged still get cared for, too.

Peace.

That's never been the issue. The issue is who pays for it. It's not free.

A typical physicians office has to pay for 1-2 front staff. 2-3 medical assistants. 3-4 RNs. Maybe 1-3 NPs and PAs. This is in addition to the office lease. Than they have to pay for billing coders.

Hospitals are major employers of many local towns.

No one gets true free care unless they are indigent.

It's like "free law service". U really think a public defender is better than a team of highly organized and motivated defense team like OJ Simpson had.

We could start by re-channeling our billions in war monies, into health care costs. What an idea!!

Peace!

I don't have THE magical answer, but I DO know that there is NO acceptable reason why the U$, with all it's technology, resources, innovative minds, should not have a system that is the envy of the rest of the world. That's one of several major reaons I bolted out of here for Oz when I got the chance. It stuns the rest of the civilized world that the U$ still fights to cling to such an obviously flawed system, where so many lose so much through no fault of their own. Throw in attitudes like the many that are in this forum, and I realize the dream of decent affordable heatlh care for the U$ will never be more than a pipe dream, and that the U$ can no longer even be in the discussion about great nations.

Lets reform defense spending in the USA.

Defense spending makes up 20% of the national budget each year. Heath care is the other 20%

The issue the US economy will skyrocket to 20% unemployment if u start eliminating both defense and health jobs.

All one needs to look at is 1989-1991. The Cold War ended. Recession took place. Defense spending got cut. U saw the USA economy and even the housing economy tank 10-15% especially out in southern ca and wash DC area.

Lets cut health spending. Lets see how many people lose jobs. It's a very delicate balance.

Same goes for defense spending cuts. People in Washington DC already know what happened the last time with major defense cuts after the Cold War.

It's called using your education. If the best economists in the US don't have a solution to improve the economy and health care system that doesn't include going to war, we're in trouble.

People in defense lose their jobs? That's ok. They can be doing things that are more useful to society and humanity, like education and social services. There's a major shooting practically every month in the US. Rather than increasing defense, we need more people working in social services to treat the obviously rampant social ills in the US today.

We give 5 billion (or more) to Israel every year. For what? Defense from the Palestinians?

No. It's time to funnel people's money into things that count, such as health care for all. There's no reason why someone should have to lose their home in order to cover a hospital stay.

Peace.

What I've learned in this thread:
Half of the people think that universal healthcare would be a great thing in this country.
The other half think that America is just too damn stupid to pull it off. Apparently every single other industrialized country in the world does this, but we just couldn't do it, it just wouldn't work. What that says to me is that we in America are just not as good as the rest of the world.
