The OP is deliberately misleading. They are 15 and 18 year old high school students who started a relationship when the older girl was 17. The parents of the younger girl waited until the older girl had turned 18 so she was legally an 'adult' and could be prosecuted. They had recorded a phone conversation between the 2 girls talking about kissing in the high school bathroom.
If this was a male and a female there would be no story. In fact, if I understand correctly an 18 year old male and 15 year old girl could legally get married in Florida.

It apparently wasn't outside the Romeo and Juliet law and has nothing to do with the 'prosecution'. It only has to do with whether she would be put on the registered sex offender list.

I have an issue with classifying an 18 year old male or female as a sex offender for this type of crime. Also to the poster who said they were kissing in the bathroom it had to go beyond that. There had to be penetration.
This is a case of pedophilia. The victim is so young she may not even really be gay, but being led down the path of perversion by the older girl. Lock her up.

if the 18 year old in this equation were male, liberals would have the exact opposite opinion. but sense it is a gay person, they feel that need to defend the illegal actions.
most countries allow for sex at 16 - that seems about right
