No they aren't. Why people still think they are is beyond me. The only time FEMA became first responders was when the coast guard saved all those people off the rooftops in nu oleens that I can recall. Of course they didn't do it fast enough according to many.

Especially in a situation like a tornado where there was no prior warning to get people in place it is going to take some time.

What part of the following isn’t good enough for you?

Quote:
Obama spoke on the disaster following a meeting with his disaster response team, including Napolitano and top White House officials. On Monday, he spoke with Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin and Republican Rep. Tom Cole, whose home is in the heavily damaged town of Moore, a suburb of Oklahoma City.

The president has also declared a major disaster in Oklahoma, ordering federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts. Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Craig Fugate was due in Oklahoma later Tuesday to ensure that federal resources are being properly deployed.
Carney said FEMA has enough funds at this time to pay for recovery efforts, but did not rule out an additional request for money from Congress in the future.
I guess Obama declaring the tornadoes a MAJOR DISASTER, ordering FEDERAL AID for Oklahoma, the FEMA director stating that there will be ENOUGH FUNDS TO PAY FOR RECOVERY EFFORTS is sooo disappointing to someone with sooo many conspiracy theories to keep juggling up in the air.

There, there.

Cheer up. They did say they may have to ask Congress for more money in the future (due to the sequester). Maybe a red state will also be the location of the next tragedy and the members of this board can get some real hatred and mean-spiritedness going. Just be patient and wait. And don’t forget to keep your tinfoil hats on at all times.

It is the rich people's money along with all tax payers that help pay for the devastation. The churches and their congregations and donations from all people help with the necessities in times of crisis. All people come together as it should be and this is what is forgotten. The haters just like to show hate for those who think differently and can't respect that difference.

The same question...where was FEMA.

People seem to think FEMA is a first responder group.
Where are you coming up with the idea that that FEMA isn't part of the first responder team? They do the long term rebuilding and recovery work, but they also do search and rescue, set up emergency communications networks, move in emergency supplies like food and water, and provide emergency medical care immediately after a disaster. They're the federal part of the team that supports local law enforcement, emergency management and private non-profit support like the Red Cross.

FEMA doesn't have construction crews. They write checks.

I wouldn't gripe too much, they are probably better off without the feds mucking everything up. Their neighbors rolled in with help and supplies all night long. FEMA can help (or hinder) later.

What do you expect from right wingers that insisted "acts of terrorism" does not equate to "a terrorist attack".

That is usually how it plays out. People get things done then the fed comes in and mucks everything up with red tape.
