I hope those that disagree with the decision find another group for their kids.
I didn't realize that 70% of scout units are sponsored by churches. Maybe those churches that decide to leave the sponsorship start an alternative group.
Gay kids? We're talking about 8-9 year olds right?
We're also talking about modern American liberals AKA the scum of the earth so it's no surprise that they want to sexualize young children for political gain.
No - that is something that only exists in your head. I have no problem with Christians, never have, and doubt that I ever will. I have no problem with the free exercise of religion nor do I rant and rave against Christianity.
I DO, however, have a problem with people who hide behind religion to express hatred against others, who attempt to use religion to ostracize others, and who feel like those who don't fit their particular "ideal" are somehow lesser beings. Incidentally, I have my doubts that those people are actually "Christian."
Your problem is simply that you have forgotten (or perhaps you never knew) Christ. Instead, you have construed some perverted version of Christianity in your head that lifts you above all others, makes you disgustingly self-righteous, and which pollutes the idea of Christianity for absolutely everybody else.
In essence, such a perverted interpretation of Christianity is nothing more than a cancerous growth that kills its very host. I was taught to follow the ideal of Christ, to love and forgive. And to accept others for who they are. I have followed these ideas my entire life - not because of some idolatrous and blind worship, but because these ideas simply make sense.
Not once has it crossed my mind that I should use Christ's teachings to discriminate against others simply for who they are. I am, perhaps, tempted to pass judgement based on people's actions - but simply being attracted to the same sex is not an action and certainly not one that harms another person. Murder, Rape, Child Molestation, racist discrimination - those are condemnable actions. Being homosexual, Mexican, black, white, female, "foreign," lacking in intelligence - those are not actions...
Thus, I am not only disgusted by some people's need to discriminate against others simply based on immutable traits, but I am equally disgusted by people who abuse a religion that has tried VERY, VERY hard to be a religion of love by turning it into a religion of hate. Been there, done that! Let's not even mention people who combine these two issues...
Remember how there was a time when most people didn't think twice when they heard "Islam?" Ever notice what happened once a bunch of morons became self-righteous and turned this religion around to foster hatred?
I don't need people to do the same to Christianity. I don't need my country to embrace fundamentalism. I don't need my country to embrace or tolerate discrimination based on traits. I don't need to be accepting of anyone or any group to wants to pursue such goals.
I do want a country that grants equality to all and that fosters individuals, groups, and organizations that value the idea that we are all the same and that all of us have the same access to goods and services to fulfill our hopes and dreams in life - regardless of what we look like, what color our skin has, or who we love.
If you don't like gays, don't be gay. If you don't like Mexicans, don't be Mexican. If you don't like blacks, don't be black. But don't use your dislikes to keep others from pursuing the same goals and the same life that you feel entitled to. And stop cowardly hiding behind religion as though doing so makes everything "okay" because of religious freedom. It does not.

I don't think Jesus would have any opinion about optional groups and who they let into their "clubs".
People have religious beliefs. They will choose to leave.

It's those "scum of the earth" liberals that have made all of the advancements in equal rights over the course of history.
Remember that the next time the women in your life are casting votes during elections. Liberals made that happen.

Poor kids. Having parents that don't even attempt to promote critical thinking skills or just plain decency. Instead, they are being taught to assume that different = bad despite the lack of evidence to support such an accusation. They are being taught that discrimination can be "OK" even without identifiable, verifiable reason for it. They are being taught to commit to and show prejudice against one group of "sinners" and blame it on God. All this in addition to being denied the opportunity to be in the Boy Scouts.

I feel very sorry for the kids themselves, but also for the gay kids those kids will go on to terrorize and bully because of the intolerance they have learned at home.
And, my heart goes out to the 3% of the kids who are gay and who have to grow up in homes where they know they are hated and despised for who they are.
