People see what they want to see. People want to read more than there is in some things.
If not for this thread and I saw that commercial I would think they were promoting their product, not an interracial family. Apparently some people need to slice, dice, chop and pick apart everything trying to find something and when the can't find anything, they make something up.
The irony is, heart health can not be achieved by eating a brand of cereal. It's a mixture of eating healthy organic natural foods, maintaining stress levels, getting adequate sleep at night, and exercising for at least 30 - 60 minutes daily.
I believe marketing is a mixture of propaganda and entertainment. But it's also true that there are a number of mixed girls with black dads, who are able to strongly identify with the cereal advert.
Should these families just be ignored by the media and advertisers?
Are they in the majority? Not likely.
There's a reason marketers target certain segments. To increase sales and to manipulate people's emotions to make them more accepting of a position or idea.

Marketers care more about class, than race. This is why you will see adverts from Lexus featuring clearly upper income Whites, Blacks, Asians and Hispanics. I have yet to see one luxury car ad featuring low income people of any race.
Similarly, the cereal ad is really geared at middle class families. Based on the advert, one can surmise from the footage that the couple featured owns a nice/comfortable home, just like the targeted audience.
I'm still waiting for any cereal brand to show a family eating their product in a trailer park or in the projects. But something tells me this will never happy, because advertisers care about the green. If a person doesn't have the means to purchase their product, they are uninterested in that particular demographic.
