If you're watching the News and you see different black men involved in criminal activity night after night, you might start thinking all black people are criminals.
Is that true? No.
Is it a stereotype? Yes.
Is it right to stereotype others? No.
Did that stereotype begin with some basis in reality? Yes.
The brain makes generalizations. It does so because it is impossible to remember the details of every event of every day. So it groups things together for easier digestion.

A White American most likely has more in common culturally with a Black American than they have with their ancestors in Europe even though they have some different physical traits from the Black American.

No, you are just wrong. Environment is important, but genetics are a major factor, not a minuscule one. Twin studies have shown this and well as large population comparison studies.
There have been numerous other studies that also show this.
Why is is important? Because we have policies in place that operate on the FALSE assumption that all humans groups are exactly identical. These policies cost us billions in lost productivity as we try to force all groups to be exactly the same, when we have no evidence to show that we are. In fact, there are mountains of evidence showing that we aren't, yet we keep ignoring the facts.

I agree with you. Perhaps a remedy would be to give personality tests to every worker and then treat them in accordance with the results? Rather than trying to fit everyone into the same pigeonhole?
Look at how Western Europe has developed and the standard of living they enjoy and look at Sub-Saharan Africa. Look at a majority white urban neighborhood, like Chicago's north shore, then look at a majority black one such as Chicago's south side. Look at Haiti, look at the Dominican Republic. I will leave it at that, I have already said something too taboo for most to handle on here. There are general patterns wherever certain specific races inhabit.
And furthermore about your "stereotype" of white child molesters... (Nice, subtle racial insult added in there that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.) You might want to look further into statistics. Whites are underrepresented by about 35% in relation to their population, Asians 67% less than their percentage would suggest, and on the other hand blacks have a 92% greater chance of being a sex offender than their population numbers.
