Which health risk? Sickle Cell is not only found among those with African lineage, it's also found in Arab, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish people.

I agree with what he said, I was just pointing out his contradictory statement, that the baby was adopted.

But if you saw that baby while shopping, I'm sure you would just assume that the baby was white.

Race is about genetics, but it makes about as much sense as calling redheads a race.

But if race is truly about genetics, how can a black woman, like the one in the video give birth to a white baby, and how can a white woman give birth to a black baby?

The point is, race is a social construct, because when we call someone black, white, etc, we are not able to take account of their genetic makeup. We are just using a blanket term, based on how we, as a society have decided to group individuals.

It's really irrelevant to the discussion IMO. It's a distraction. Many mixed race infants are pretty white looking but develop other features as they get older. That really doesn't have much to do with them still simply being people just like every other person.

Race is just a social construct.

Whites used to be considered only to be those of Caucasian ancestry from Europe. Now a lot more people want to be viewed as white including obvious mixed race hispanics, Middle Easterners. George Zimmerman for example, Peruvian Indian and he's being called "white" even though he'd very definitely qualify for any of the hispanic type benefits.

There used to be a one-drop rule that meant even one black ancestor, you were defined as black but that's not the definition any longer.

More and more "race" is only the box you feel like checking off -- and it might be advantageous to think before you check one. For some boxes, getting accepted into college or getting financial aid is much easier. Think before you check. We can all be whatever we want to be.

It's superficial genetics. Dark skin, curly hair, etc are decided genetically. People just lumped the things from the same area that looked the same and called that a "race." That's why it makes as much sense as calling redhead a race.

I mentioned how the infant looks, to prove a point. I don't know what the child will look like in a year or two, but currently, if someone saw the baby, they would assume that the baby is white, when it's really mixed. But If race labels were truly based on genetics, this wouldn't be possible, because the mother would not be considered black (since based on genetics, although she has dark skin, she is in fact mixed race). Which proves that race, as we know it and use it, is nothing more than a social construct.
