Before he was VP, Biden suggested that Iraq be geographically divided in 3 for each group: Sunni, Shiite, Kurd.

I'm starting to think maybe he had something there...

"More than 1,000 people were killed in violence across Iraq in May, according to the UN mission to the country. The UN figures, released on Saturday, showed that 1,045 civilians and security personnel were killed last month, which surpasses the 712 killed in April, and making it the deadliest month recorded since June 2008. Iraqi authorities believe the local offshoot of al-Qaeda and other Sunni-backed fighter groups are responsible for much of the violence. But a series of attacks on Sunni mosques which left more than 100 dead in recent weeks is raising concerns that Shia fighters are also behind some of the violence. Iraqis are growing increasingly concerned about the surge in violence."

Joe has nothing we should n't have been over there in the first place and the recent violence is the reason why and it will get worse. So much for spreading freedom and democracy.

The Bible makes it clear that the middle east was a violent sinkhole of petty territorial squabbles thousands of years ago. Fast forward to today and we see that it hasn't changed a bit.

80 years of hate between the different groups will take some time to sort things out. Remember, 1/3 of the Americans fought the British, 1/3 joined the British and 1/3 did not care. After the war, thousands of Americans fled to Canada. Nothing new...civil wars tend to correct long term social problems.

Recent presidents have made it our business, though.

Democracy without respect for individual liberty is simply tyranny of the majority. We should stop our attempts to spread democracy in the ME.

Yes the meddling is legendary, if not criminal. Thousands dead and Americans poorer and less free.

It's like getting in the middle of a domestic dispute, both sides will end up turning on the person trying to stop the fight. The husband and wife will unite as a couple again to fight off this person who has the gall to try and stop their aggressive partner, and then start fighting again the moment the interloper is gone. We just need to make sure the fighting doesn't spillover otherwise we need to just stay the heck away.

The boundaries of many countries including Iraq are vestiges of British colonial rule. In the absence of a external power or a strong and repressive government, ethnic rivalries driven by greed, lead to violence. It is not only the middle east. The same thing went on in the Balkans after the Soviet Union broke down. Biden may be right, but it is not the business of the US to make something like that happen. Let them kill each other or make love. But either way, it is their problem and not ours to solve. We need to stand back and let colonialism unravel as it will.
