In this short clip, we see the boys playing "Texans vs. Mexicans," with Cartman in the role of a Texas Ranger patrolling the border, and Butters as the Mexican leader trying to cross into Texas.

Guess what! Same thing was happening with the Germans and German language. Americans were in fear over German being an official language or replaces by English but after a generation it died out. Spanish will die out as well. Many Hispanic kids do not speak Spanish fluent, and use English more.

Keep in mind that only 12% of the U.S. population have knowledge of Spanish.
Well, there are differences - like here in California, the Spanish speakers were here before us, and there are spanish speaking countries that are connected to us by land.

All the same, it's a rather myopic issue - learn Mandarin now!

Who cares. They were here before us. So what. So were the Brits. I guess you still hold your loyalty to England? What kind of liberal idiocy are you going to spew next?

Yea, but in the mean time, 50% of jobs that require only a HS diploma will require you to speak Spanish fluently! And for jobs that require nothing but a pulse???

Why be so 'fraid of Spanish? It's nothing new here. Arguing against reality on a web site does not change the reality.

The circumstances now are so different that the 19th century German experience is completely irrelevant.

I think that's why the US govt hasn't bothered passing English laws.

It's pretty much a given.

And the fact is -- the Spanish speakers have absurdly high birth rates, they can't afford their children if they stay in their own countries where there are not food stamps and Medicaid free health care. They'll continue to pour over the border by the millions every year. The easiest way to come to the USA of course is to simply give birth to access the many welfare handouts which is how they can afford their sky high birth rates.

We're quickly becoming just another hispanic nation with sky high birth rates and rapidly growing poverty and illiteracy. Just like the one they fled.

The numbers of Spanish speakers arriving every year is simply too high and in many regions, it would be difficult to assimilate with Americans even if they wanted to because English isn't much spoken. If they wanted to assimilate, they'd start out by showing respect for USA laws, but also immigration is not at all fair and balanced, it's heavily dominated by only one ethnic group/language.

You have to remember that in the past, there was a much better mix of immigrants. People from a wide variety of nations -- Ireland, Germany, Poland, Italy and so on -- people saw the need in having a common language. You didn't see the same arrogant demand that those already here learn their languages either.
Exactly.

My mother's parents came over from Germany.....they never spoke German to the kids.....they wanted the kids to use English. They wanted to assimilate and be Americans.

The only phrase my Mom knew in German from her childhood was....."Shut the door." Makes sense......how many times do parents yell that at their kids? LOL
