Yes, but WHAT kind of farming practices will be used.

I wonder if the wonderful Chinese will fatten up the hogs by feeding them old wallboard!

We couldn't hire an Americanized Korean because of protectionist limits.

China isn't going to import pigs. They are going to EXPORT the pork products from here to them.
China is a net importer of pork.

They are buying up OUR food supply chain for themselves.
They already import 60% of the world's supply of soybean.

If anything this means our pork prices may rise because they are exporting our pork "home".

I predict the following may happen. The Chinese have no real need for things like Smoked Ham, Bacon or pork sausages. The have a need for ground pork and shreaded pork (pork stripped from the bones. So this is the form it will leave the Mid-Atlantic region to travel in freezer containers or even flown to China. They are actually intrested in the Farm-suppliers to to Smithfield rather than the processing elements or the sales and transport (US) elements of the company. I predict some serious downsizing and unemployment in the Virginia Tidewater and Eastern North Caroline where Smithfield has processing plants or cold storage and shipping facilities. The Smithfield brands in supermarkets may virtually disapear. Any independent trucker who ships Smithfield products to Americas supermarket chains will have to find some new shippers needing their services.

Money talks my friend.

And, they may just grind up all hogs, freeze it and ship it to their own country, and put many Americans out of work, globalization, it's a dirty word. It may even hurt some truckers, as one member already stated.
