A man of questionable mental capability left a loaded gun where his 4-year-old son could get it. The son found it, started playing with it, it went off, and killed the father.
It was not the father's gun, they were actually at a friend's house.
Most liberals I talk to (myself included) support gun safety. She's right, guns will always be apart of American culture... the least we can do is educate gun owners about safe handling/use/storage.
Change the word gun in this quote to drugs, and suddenly conservatives' positions do a complete 180.

Not really. The drug issue doesn't break down along neat partisan lines, as any informed person should know. There are plenty of libertarian-oriented conservatives who oppose the drug war. And plenty of progressive democrats who support it. Obama's chosen drug czar, Gil Kerlikowske, was a police chief here where I lived (Seattle). He's ardently anti-drug, to the point where he opposes med. marijuana.
The drug war war was kicked off under a progressive Democrat, Woodrow Wilson, in 1914 (the Harrison Act).
This is a classic example why those in the entertainment industry should keep their big fat mouths shut. No matter what they say, they risk losing half their paying audience.
