Apparently the Zimbabwe leadership believes that living free and independent is better than living prosperous and under someone elses control.

The brazen, cavalier ignorance of this statement is simultaneously infuriating and dismaying.
For starters, Zimbabwe has been politically independent for over 40 years now. Go read an encyclopedia entry or something.
Second... rigging elections, jailing opposition leaders, beating and killing families who openly campaign against you in a sham "election," chasing white CITIZENS (not foreigners, not colonialists, but your own CITIZENS) out of the country, ruining your agricultural industry to the extent that many of your countrymen are now starving, and inflating your currency by four million percent per year... if this is what you call "freedom" then you have no business talking to me or anyone else about freedom, because you know nothing about it.
