It is discrimination, not racism. A private company can do business with whomever they want. If you go to Korean grocery store, they will quote a different price for Koreans than everyone else.

I'm sure some agent somewhere might not follow this procedure but that would not be the norm.
good for you Rakin. Is it your impression that some realtors do treat minorities differently?

I am just stating the facts. I don't have to agree/disagree with them. It is also said that "gays" push up property values too.

Certainly not surprising. This is why I don't understand all who criticize affirmative action. They pretend as though white privilege doesn't exist, when it obviously does.

It's discrimination based on race, so that makes it racism. You can't quote two different potential renters two different different prices on rent. That's illegal.

Sorry about your confusion. Nowhere does it say Realtors as in all or many. It says one.

I wonder how many they had to test to find the ONE agent.

8,000 tests and they find a few examples. That's pretty darn low.

In each of the study’s 8,000 tests,

In one test, a white customer looking for a two-bedroom apartment was shown a two-bedroom and a one-bedroom and given applications for both, while a Hispanic customer who arrived two hours later was told that nothing was available. In another, a real estate agent refused to meet with a black tester who was not prequalified for a loan, while a white tester was given an appointment without being asked if she had prequalified.

The study found that minorities were shown fewer homes for sale, thus limiting their opportunities in terms of good schools.

And people wonder why blacks as a group lag in educational attainment. If you're given less of an opportunity than a white to even move into an area with a good school, that just perpetuates the cycle of low achievement.

I think minorities should start suing the realtors and rental agents who are perpetrating these crimes, and then it might end soon enough.

The overall conclusion based on the study is, minorities are discriminated against w/ respect to housing. Why are you trying to minimize the conclusion of the study researchers?

Rakin, I don't know if you saw my question to you. In your experience, do some real estate agents discriminate against minorities? (not you, but others.)

Unfortunately the idea that non-whites lower property value is actually true more often than not.
