Of Course they will. Who wouldn't if they had that power?

We do have the history of J. Edgar Hoover and his dossiers. A campaign organization could use government data to sic the tabloid press on some opponent. I don't know the probability. But how can anyone deny the temptation? Rupert Murdoch had his own little NSA operations, hacking voicemails. And he had collaborators who were in power.

Yes that's a given but cons really think its going to be "liberal" democrats using the info the spy on conservatives.

Apparently y'all never heard of COINTELPRO.

The govt will use the info to attack opponents from both the right and left. This has moved beyond a left/right thing.

Yes everyone should be alarmed, congrats on being the first to make it partisan.

I'm a far left radical. And I've seen what guys with a "liberal" label can do. In fact, anyone in Congress with Big Money behind them is capable of anything.

I was just trying to say that here will be those that think this is some progressive power grab to instill a 1984 like world for socialism.

It's just the state grabbing more power and using it against political opponents. It doesn't matter if they're em right or left wing.

Of course. With the exception of a few like Bernie Sanders, I don't believe for a second that "liberal" democrats will protect civil liberties. I would much rather side with a civil libertarian republican like Rand Paul before Barbara Boxer.

On this issue most dems and republicans in congress are lock step in agreement.

Somebody answer this...do you think the NSA is actively listening to your phone calls? Are you okay with them using this technology on foreigners?

My phone is powered off 99 percent of the time. So there's only so much they can collect. But lots of people call and talk about all sorts of things. With the muddle-headed keyword search, anyone of you could get a loud knocking on the door. It has happened! Plus, there are now enough examples of actual terrorists from multiple races, you can't even rely on racial profiling.

A country that is a symbol like America should not be acting so CONTRARY to what we tell the world is right. And it all goes back to congressional insanity in September and October 2001. I'm still waiting for rational remorse to start undoing the damage of that hysteria.

Too bad you are still in a minority in understanding this.
