Default Jan Brewer Pushes Through Obamacare Medicaid Expansion!

Lion, tigers and RHINOs oh my!

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer won a battle with state lawmakers this week, defying most other conservatives in her party to get a key component of President Obama’s Medicaid expansion through the Legislature.

The Arizona Senate voted Thursday to approve the measure 18 to 11. That followed approval earlier this week by the state House of Representatives.

The issue had inflamed passions and divided the Legislature for weeks. Things came to a head Tuesday when Brewer called lawmakers into the Capitol in Phoenix for a surprise special session.

Brewer — a vocal opponent of President Obama’s healthcare reform law — came out in support of Medicaid expansion for her state in January and ended up leading a contingent of moderate Democrats and Republicans who won over the objections of some conservative Republicans.

Considering all the snowbirds and retirees who flock out to her state, it's not surprising. She is as phony as all the Republicans who oppose Obamacare because their leadership told them to. If their leadership told them to support it, they would sing how wonderful it is within seconds.

Plus, it's lions, tigers and RINO's, oh my!

they dont like to be called snowbirds anymore...they are winter Texans or winter Arizonans. Most winter folk are not on Medicaid. Medicaid is for low income medical indigents. There are plenty of low income disabled folk in Arizona that do not or have not yet qualified for Medicare.

It was wise of Ms. Brewer to opt for the additional help for her State's low income residents via the Affordable Care Act.

We still call 'em snowbirds in AZ. Ain't nobody got time for all those syllables. And yes, she done right for once. She also got a temporary sales tax passed a year ago over a fight from the right. She also got almost all of the increase for education and child protective services she wanted in the budget she rammed through. Obama could take a lesson from her on how to get stuff done.

Not true regarding the snowbirds, and IMO this is one of the biggest Medicaid myths, that it is all poor people who spent their lives collecting from the system. When they get to nursing home stage, depending on how long they live those snowbirds will almost all be on Medicaid at some point. Not many people, no matter how much they saved, can afford to pay $400/day for very long. My mother, who is in an assisted living facility, will be on Medicaid in about 2 years, and she worked her entire adult life.

It is also the only health care system for those with developmental disabilities and other birth defects, and also the severely mentally ill (those who are incapable of working, live in group homes, etc).
