We can objectively determine our culture to be superior in this instance, if we agree on a few premises (ie., that suffering is bad, happiness is good, etc.)

Gay marriage makes people happier and holds no negative side effects. Ergo, banning it is an inferior moral stance.

Well, sweetcheecks, gay couples want the right to marry. It has nothing to do with straight couples who are dating. It's about marriage.

marriage isn't a right my little sugar pie, it's a tax. stop being pathetic. gays want to marry for financial reasons, because they are super greedy. they want that money and the benefits that comes with their state contract. you do know that this is city-data.com, and not city-data.ca right?

It sure is.

If they had any interest in "equality" or "rights" or whatever other nonsense you wanna call it they would be fighting to get government out of marriage and divorce altogether. Let churches and the private sector take care of it.

It aint about equality. It's about getting tax breaks at the expense of non-marrieds. It's discrimination no matter how they try and justify it.

The same liberals constantly whining about tax dodgers are fighting to give people tax breaks.

Well Sci Fi Fan I don't know if you could call it standing on the right side of history just because you want people to change their principles in order to be accepted by you left-wing, liberal, wanting to shove homosexual marriage and beyond down everyone's throat, group. It is not over until it is over. And even if it is accepted nationwide, worldwide even, there are those who will oppose you and your ilk to the bitter end. At least they have principles and stand firmly for something even though you many consider them stupid, homophobic, archaic and anything else caustic you can think up. Don't worry, there will always be someone around for you and your elitist, intellectually superior group to taunt.

Gays can get married. There are gay wedding chapels in every state in the country.

Just because government doesn't approve it doesn't mean they can't do it.

The states where it is "illegal" is not enforced. Gay couples marry there all the time. When was the last time a gay couple was busted for getting married???

Gay couples want tax breaks at the expense of non-marrieds.

I see. So letting gay people marry each other somehow equates to "shoving" the concept down everyone's throat, as if "everyone" has the right to forbid others from marrying...because them being allowed to do so would violate "everyone"'s freedom...from other people's private romantic relationships?
