Not through the use of money to get people to vote.
They need money to finance their campaigns. I think starting at the local level getting this money is often dependent on the expectation you'll do certain things for them.

I consider myself just barely in the camp of having Democrat/liberal views. One aspect I've always had trouble with is the relationship between Dems and the unions. It is is clear to me the unions expect a lot from the Dem party to the point they act like they are buying influence.

Oh those two made their own bed. Really no one today can expect to behave like that without some potential consequences. Weiner was sending pics of himself online...doesn't really seem like he cared what happened.

Was there any evidence anyone tried to blackmail them and they wouldn't comply?

Well most politicians are Lawyers. Does anyone really like a lawyer? I mean they are a necessary evil. Like sometime you need a laxative, or sometimes you need a prostate exam.
Next I think career politician start out as people who enjoy having power. Doing things for the community is simply a bi-product of them using their power.
Look at the Kennedy family. Old man Kennedy built a political dynasty for one purpose. Power.
Most politicians are in love with their own sense of self importance. How can they not be corrupt?
The few who might be honest simply don't last. There is no room in the major parties for honest men.

Let's see, the feds can access everything you say or do on the internet and you're still unable to figure this out? Weiner pissed someone in the Obama administration off. That so many men are crazy in our society is another issue entirely.

history certainly doesn't show local level politician not be corrupt. Many are sent to prison all the time for subverting funds on project to their friends and taking kickback. The lure to control and steal money form taxpayers is too much for many. All politicians start locally and the history of local political corrupt is a long one. But your also lumping people who have never been proven to break the law as far as corruption with those who have. Like saying all workers steal from their company. Maybe your confusing agreeing with not agreeing with you to corruption; quite different.

Money, it's as simple as that. Sometimes all it takes is a new paint job for your house.
