So, we are under a month away from the beginning of the furlough of Department of Defense employees. 850,000 or so employees. Since this will not directly impact John or Jane Q. Public in realms of their daily lives, I wonder if there will be any similar outrage as was noticed when the FAA furloughs kicked in?

Those that will be impacted, DoD employees, their families, and the Soldier, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines that they support will feel the pinch.

What really got me angry about the furlough is that some jobs are able to take the furlough all at once and then also receive unemployment benefits for that week.

Furloughed federal workers can collect unemployment benefits - May. 29, 2013

The example in the link has an employee that earns over $100K a year. The ability to collect unemployment is only for certain fields, unions, and job descriptions.

My husband who is also DoD, earns FAR less ($35K) and will not be allowed to group his furlough days in one week.

Like all the other cut/furlough threats..Congress will find money.

But we'll leave WH tours shut down.

I was optimistic that might have been the case, but official notifications have now been given, and it looks like furlough will proceed as planned barring any last minute maneuvering by Congress.

Here is hoping....

Which is the first clue that you're not needed.

Yes, when we have 48 million people, almost one out of every six Americans, receiving food stamps who contribute "nothing" to society and the IRS who are getting 70 million in bonuses plus taking expensive trips.

And that's the problem with govt so many people already work 9/80 2 week time periods.

No real work gets done and many Fridays/Monday.

I would just tell workers they have to take random Tuesday-Thursday off.
