If you're really telling the truth, you are in the minority. No pun intended. Well, yes it was...
I live in Montreal. I don't hear that word up here except in rap songs. People don't use it. I certainly do not, and I've never heard my friends use it.
"Food Network will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month."
Her contract was not renewed. Shows get cancelled, not renewed and replaced. That's the TV business.
While the Food Network had record audiences in 2012, and it has dropped somewhat in 2013, with Deen's show not getting the audiences she use to (Are they dying off??). Some of the new shows are doing quite well, with the prime audience for the network.
I find that word so spectacularly offensive that I couldn't bring myself to say it. If I was to tell someone about this story, I would say "The n-word", instead of what she said. It would make me feel dirty, like I'd need to wash out my mouth with soap or something.
Oh my favorite part of her deposition was when they asked "Have you used the 'N' word yourself?" & she replies "Yes, of course!" Like, "Duh! Doesn't everybody?" Holy moly, her deposition answers just kept digging her further & further into the grave. What a maroon. Well, sayonara!
Blacks, Mexicans, & even some Asians call each other that all the time...basically anyone with a hood mentality or thinks they're being cool by saying it, but God forbid a famous Southern cook who had a gun to her head by a Black man call it like it is!!!
