It was hard to come out 20 - 30 years ago. As the result, these gay and lesbians lived in closet. They never turned homosexuals. They were just hiding. But now since it is more acceptable, they are comfortable enough to come out.
Where in South Asia are you from? I was born there, and is well versed to the region since I travel there alot.
What food additives. Gay people have always been around. It is not food additives that cause people to be gay. Is it food additives that cause animals to be gay? Silly.

Not only was it not socially acceptable, but it was against the law. Getting caught with another man in a comprimising situation could cost one his job, his family and end up being jailed and having your name and picture pasted all over the newspaper as a pervert.
