Ahhh - Harrier sees that you get your news from a LWNJ propaganda site.
Newsflash! The country has changed in the last 58 years.
The provisions for certain states with "pasts" to seek federal approval for rule changes are no longer necessary.
And guess what? The same SCOTUS that gave us ObamaCare stated the bolded in Shelby County vs. Holder.

Until then - feel free to live in 1965.
Yes, the country has changed. The problem is the Republicans have also changed. They were in favor of voting rights back in 1965, now they're not. States passing laws of voter suppression is not a thing of the past, it is happening today

No "voter suppression laws are being passed.
If you disagree, then please cite 1 or 2 and then Harrier will blow your "analysis" clear out of the water.
“With today’s decision, the State’s voter ID law will take effect immediately," Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said in a statement. "Redistricting maps passed by the Legislature may also take effect without approval from the federal government.”
In blocking those redistricting maps last year, a separate panel of federal judges ruled that the government "provided more evidence of discriminatory intent than we have space, or need, to address" in their opinion. Attorney General Eric Holder cited the Texas redistricting case in his statement criticizing the Supreme Court's ruling.

In a legal fashion though, it's fancy legal word is "redistricting"
They did that here in Wisconsin to the benefit of the GOP, and I expect more of the same before 2016.
Liberals hate states rights unless of course a state votes for say gay marriage then of course they are all for it. lol
