That's actually an economic parable.

There are plenty of productive endeavors to spend money on that will stimulate the economy.

Not just Americans have to decide. Brits also have to decide, are they with Europe or the US, with the current differences one can't be on both sides, frankly. Britain is more and more considered a Trojan horse of the US over here. They should be kicked out of the EU asap.

Millions were monitored."

That gets the award for the most naive statement of the year.

I always have to laugh at Americans who say that America is the freest country in the world? Lol, how are you kidding? Europeans have more freedom than us overall. Just because shouting ni**** in most EU countries would land you a jail sentence or a fine doesn't mean it's a police state over there. Fact of the matter is, Americans have an infantile sense of what freedom is. But, thankfully, at least the OP looks like he gets it

Just like the people who voted for Hitler, you don't realize what is going on and even defend what is going wrong as you were told it is in the interest of your country. Don't complain later on that nobody had warned you...

By the way it is Sieg Heil. Odd choice of words given that it is your country that is gradually turning into a fascist state...

It is true. Without our affiliation with NATO and the US, Europeans would be way safer. I trust the Russians and the Chinese more than I trust the Americans these days, to be quite honest.

As for the first, it has been less than 2 years since every German able-bodied male put their life on standby for a year or so while they trained with arms in the Bundeswehr. For five decades after WWII, they knew their country was designated as the spot where the Warsaw Pact and NATO would slug it out, and they - unlike, I might add, the US - had living memories of what it's like to have a war where you live. (Hint: It sucks.) They still built their Leopard tanks and their Marder ICVs, opened their country for US and UK bases and dealt with the fact that half their country was occupied.

As for security round the globe, well - they learned a harsh lesson on the entire "Let's go overseas to fight, the boys will be home by Christmas", and they took it to heart. The enormity of the decision to offer to invoke Article V after 9/11 is hard to fathom if you're not following German politics.

Quote:
Have we forgotten that the 9/11 terrorists lived and were plotting in Germany?
They lived, plotted and took goddamn flying lessons in Florida as well. With US authorities being inept enough to send Mohammed Atta a renewed student visa a full six six months after 9/11.

If you think Germany doesn't take stuff like government intrusion into people's life ridiculously seriously, you need to travel a bit.

That is pretty funny, given that you support Obama with-

using drones to kill US citizens without due process
using the DOJ to intitmidate an opposition journalist with a 1917 espionage act
using the DOJ to spy on AP reporters
using the IRS to punish political opponants
using the NSA to spy on US citizens
using political correctness to suppress free speech
preventing conservatives from speaking at college campuses

It appears as though you are in direct opposition to the beliefs of those you quote. Fascism is a funny thing- those who are fascists rarely understand that they are, in fact, fascists, and exactly how that came about.

I'd ask what it is about people who worship their bang-bangs to the point that it's the only yardstick they have for freedom...
