Mrs. Bush enjoyed a one-course lunch, relatively low in protein and fat...Of course, there was tweaking to do. Mrs. Bush loved beets...She favored spicier food over mild food, so we livened up the dishes with chiles and hot sauces whenever it made sense. And, of course, she liked to be served Tex-Mex and Southwester food as often as possible.
Much more interesting on the Obamas' dining list is Topolobampo, Rick Bayless' superb little shrine to the full panoply of Mexico's cuisine. We have eaten there happily for years, enjoying its authentic, even scholarly versions of classic dishes such as chilaquiles and Yucatecan roast pork. Topolobampo is one of the reasons we think Chicago is arguably America's top eating city, with fewer high-end addresses than New York but a more stellar, dramatic pantheon. From its diverse and creative menu, Topolobampo says, Obama often orders sopa azteca, a dark broth flavored with pasilla chilies, grilled chicken, avocado, Meadow Valley Farm handmade Jack cheese, thick cream and tortilla strips."
Republicans and democrats alike love chips and salsa
I remember when California was the greatest place on earth. Illegal emigration isn't the only thing that destroyed the promise land, but it was definitely the biggest component. Oh well, it was stolen land anyways. What comes around goes around.......
Oh the ole stolen land argument. Please spare me the BS!
I had chips and salsa all over the US. Americans eat chips and salsa in every corner of this great land, From sea, to shining sea.
From the New York ilands, to the gulf stream waters, to the redwood forests, these chips and salsa was made for me and you.
Nice spin there. I didn't say that it isn't eaten in many places in the U.S. just not as popular everywhere as it is in the southwest and no it isn't a part of our mainstream American culture.
So salsa being the number one condiment is unamerican to you? It's really too bad that you hate Mexican food so much, it's delicious. Thank GOD there are now Mexican food aisles at grocery stores & also more authentic Mexican food restaurants.
I don't mind Mexican food occasionally but there is no variety in it. It's simply, beans, rice with some sort of meat and tortillas served a little differently in each dish to make it appear like variety when it isn't.
I guess all have missed the point I was trying to make like usual. We are all Ameircans first. Something that has been lost. That is why this country is sliding downhill faster than Phil Mahre on the slopes.
Well, I don't know about the others, but I ain't no Ameircan.
