Can we please quit saying that, and every variation of that phrase. Every time i look in the comment section of political articles, there is always somebody saying "in 2014 we need to throw all these bums out of office". Half the country hates Obama, the 112th congress has dubbed a do nothing congress, and yet when we had a chance to throw everybody out, we got the same president, and 90% of congress was re-elected. In 2014, the same thing is going to happen for congress, 90% will get re-elected.
nothing will change. these people are power hungry fools that will do anything to stay in office. we will complain all we want, these people will remain with the power.

I voted against all incumbents at the national and state level in 2012 regardless of R or D.
What the people saying that tired old phrase really mean is "Throw all the leaders I don't like out of office so the people who do what I want can have a free reign."
Arent all these supposed bums voted into office by the majority of the voting public? If you want them out then instead of whining and b itching and calling them names respect the system and exercise your rights come voting day and vote them out, if after a vote they are still in power then i guess the voting majority dont share your views on their character and are happy enough with the job they are doing in office.. majority rules is the name of the game..
Maybe it's because of the choice people in the West have. We are asked to choose from just a few parties. Elections are more about whom we do not want than about whom we want. Picking the lesser evil.
And many people are probably afraid to vote for an exotic party as they know it is like throwing your vote away.
And since election promises are not worth anything, you never know what you really get, anyway. You think you vote for this or that, represented by a known face, but you also get a giant apparatus behind that person, people you don't even know.

U cannot blame voters. Congressional districts are so gerrymandered there is no way to "throw the bums out." Case in point, Democrats actually won a higher percentage of votes in the House, but failed to win that chamber. Voters did want to throw the bums out, but the system was rigged against them.
