The 'Where's Waldo' lies also began on Wednesday, continued thru Thursday, and finally admitted to on Friday.

So what?

The State Department was unaware that Kerry had taken a moment to visit his yacht late Wednesday afternoon. When they found out that he had, they corrected themselves.

And the State Department remarks on the topic have nothing to do with the actual topic of the thread--which is asking where was John Kerry when Obama met with his National Security team Wednesday to discuss Egypt--he was on the phone with them, contributing to the conversation. And he continued to be on the phone most of the day, talking with administration officials and Middle East leaders and representatives.

When he took some time to look over his yacht, Morsi had already been deposed, the military had taken control, and it was already nighttime in Egypt.

CBS sent photographic proof for comment and State still denied Waldo's whereabouts.

Yes. The State Department was still unaware on a federal holiday (Thursday) that in the late previous afternoon, after spending the day dealing with the crisis, that Kerry had visited his yacht. When they learned of their mistake, they corrected it.

Geez, my boss doesn't know that when I work at home, I often wear my pajamas. And drink apple juice.

Kerry had just returned from a two-week diplomatic junket. He'd arrived in DC at 4 am after flying all night. He'd planned on spending the 4th of July with his family, so he still had to travel to Nantucket. He did so with a phone connected to his ear. When he got in, the phone continued to be connected to his ear. He was in touch with numerous national leaders, administration officials, and several others, relaying information, gathering information, reassuring people.

On Wednesday afternoon, the world received word that Morsi had been deposed, that the military had taken control, and would be appointing an interim leader. By that time, in Egypt, the day was almost over. And Kerry decided to go out to his yacht. It was late afternoon. He was exhausted, battered, and in need of a brief break. The next day was Independence Day, a federal holiday, when most Americans take the day off. The State Department probably felt that urgent matters, and only URGENT matters, should be the only discussions on a holiday. Kerry's brief yacht time would not be considered URGENT by most reasonable people, and so they didn't raise the non-URGENT matter with Kerry until Friday. Upon learning their mistake, the State Department corrected themselves.

This wasn't some vast conspiracy. It's the very definition of NON-ISSUE.

LOL. Are you saying that Obama and the National Security team didn't notice he was missing from the meeting? And it was only when the press called to confirm that Kerry was on his yacht they noticed he wasn't in the room?

I guess you were OK with Bush showing up late to the Hurricane Katrina party. How many days was Bush MIA before he made a personal appearance - 4?

How do you know so much? Were you there or do you work for Kerry or the administration?

You missed the part where State stood by their lies on Thursday.

To paraphrase AP's Matt Lee : Will you let us know when the flaming hoops you're jumping through get too hot and just admit State lied to cover bad optics?

Oh my goodness! Do we have yet another Republican-generated scandal?

All that constant finger-pointing is working out so well for ya.

Carry on.

I'm saying that Obama and the National Security team were talking with Kerry ON THE PHONE. A little doohickey that allows people to communicate when they are FAR apart.

Kerry arrived in DC at 4 am. He then proceeded to travel to Nantucket. When he was communicating with people in Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Norway, and with people in the administration (which incidentally includes the State Department), he was communicating via PHONE.

When he visited his yacht, it was after 3 in the afternoon in Nantucket, and after 9 at night in Cairo. Morsi had been deposed for hours, the day was almost over, the military had the situation under control and if anyone needed to get hold of Kerry, he was still available.

While the twitter photo was taken after 3:30 pm and went viral Wednesday night, the State Department wasn't questioned until much later that evening. They were unaware that Kerry had visited his yacht. The next day, a federal holiday called Independence Day, the question was raised again along with a photo. The State Department reply was based on what they knew, and they still didn't know that Kerry had visited his yacht briefly the previous day. They probably don't know if he ate an apple that afternoon, or whether doughnuts were eaten by the family for breakfast. Innocuous information that has nothing to do with the State Department, like how long Kerry took in the shower between phone calls, or if he took time to play with his grandson, are not job-related, and so the State Department isn't privy to things like if Kerry took a moment in the afternoon to visit his yacht. When the State Department found out their error, they corrected it. End of story.

It's not a LIE if it's the TRUTH as you know it. And the State Department may have felt that it was a HOLIDAY on Thursday---hey, what do you know, it was a holiday on Thursday, and that's the TRUTH!--and to respect that the Secretary of State, after just returning from a two-week junket and then spending the day dealing with an international crisis, might like to enjoy the HOLIDAY, and so kept their interference in his day to a minimum. Like only dealing with URGENT matters, not with silliness.

Because this is silly. You're being silly. The fact that the Secretary of State visited his yacht for a brief time one late afternoon after dealing with a crisis all day is unimportant. The fact that the State Department was unaware that he visited his yacht for a brief time one late afternoon after dealing all day with a crisis is unimportant.

The fact that people are in a slather over what Kerry did all day is an indication that people have become altogether too nosy about other people. Kerry can do his job, and do it well, and still find time to spend with his family. And if he chooses to do so on his yacht, it's his business. No one else's.
