It goes to credibility, State has be caught lying countless times over trivialities.
People may start questioning what 'other' lies they have told.
This goes back to the prior scandals, they couldn't find any issue so there attack amounts to determining where they were at the time, as if he wasn't in contact with the white house in the first place. Stick to the issues and the decisions that were made, that should be the focus, not someone location.

AND... The State Dept. stupidly lied for two days instead of simply stating these facts. (Which brings into question their veracity)
And they lied again and again it came back to bite them.
