During a town hall meeting in Oklahoma, here's how the Oklahoma Republican Chairman defines liberty and freedom:

"There are a lot of people pushing the wrong kind of liberty in our state. Liberty is not doing what you want. It is doing what you should."

"True freedom is doing what you ought to do. False freedom is doing what you want to do."

Sounds closer to me how a fascist dictator would like to define freedom and liberty.

To many people, including GOPers, their idea of freedom is freedom to tell others what to do by taking over state and local ordinances.

That doesn't imply big government at all.

If he were intellectually honest, however, he would simply say that liberty is being free from authority but that doesn't mean you won't be held to social norms in any given society.

But he really wants a state to enforce his norms...and probably a federal government to assure bureaucracy runs without a hiccup. But you can't simply extract from that statement alone.

Freedom and Liberty are best defined by the individual...for the individual. Much like religion or sexual preference.

Just like liberty...what every you mean has meaning only to you. If you are down or not down with the white house is on you.

When in doubt, try reading the OPs link before spouting off:

Quote:
As the Vice Chair of the Republican Party for Cherokee County, I stand for true freedom and true liberty and the Truth. As a state party, I do not believe our Party will grow and continue to win if we promote statist notions and authoritarianism that tells people what kind of liberty and what kind of freedom they can have. That is disgusting. It is one of our nation’s problems – which is promoted by both Parties. It is not liberty. It is not freedom. And this Vice Chair will not support a state chairman who redefines the definition of liberty and freedom.
So the effort to attribute what this one guy says to the entire GOP fails in one click.

One thing we do know is that collectivism/liberalism/statism goes hand in hand with authoritarianism. Collectivism inherently means that individuals get to make fewer of their own decisions. Many things are decided for you, by the collective, i.e. the state.

This is how deranged the GOP mindset is today. Fascism = freedom.

The liberal mindset is just as anti-freedom they just want to restrict different freedoms. Libertarians are the only ones that truly care about freedom.
