So much for the notion that those plagued by inner-city gun violence are somehow indifferent to it or even complicit in its continuance. File this under: "News you won't likely hear much about as it contravenes popular depictions and assumptions about those most affected by gun violence".

Taking to the streets. Hundreds of Baltimore men gather for a ten mile march to stop the violence in our community.
This–as two more people are murdered in Baltimore.
Organizers were hoping for 300 people to march alongside them against violence in the city, and it looks like they may have doubled that.
A sea of men stand shoulder to shoulder as they march to send a message: “It’s a show of strength. That we do care. These are our neighborhoods. These are our families and we will not let the evil factors take over the little bit of what we do have,” said Munir Bahar, march organizer.

They are plagued by gun violence because the state restricts access to weapons for the poor. And the state refuses to provide security for the poor.
If the state was interested in reducing crime in these areas they would offer tax breaks for these folks to purchase guns, gun safes, and firearms classes. Then they would be able to protect themselves without waiting on the police who have made it clear they could care less about black people living in the ghetto.

Uh huh. The police CAN'T protect anyone, unless, of course, specially detailed to do so. They can only respond to the aftermath, and, in many cases, arrest someone who was only defending themselves. The only way that the gang infested places will ever be taken back, is, if, the good people band together and run out the rats.
This march, well, it was cool. However, it woul have been a lot cooler if tbey were marching into gangville, carrying 12 gauges and ARs , driving terrified "gangstas' before them.
A marcher from the article mentioned its going to take more than increased patrols to stop the bullets. I couldn't agree more.
Ending the Drug War would be huge in decreasing the violence. Just as Alcohol Prohibition caused an increase in crime, Drug Prohibition has increased our murder rates.
Improving the social services available in those communities and providing positive outlets for the youth and young adults would go a long way as well. Increasing the amount of jobs in those areas is needed. Higher paying jobs for residents of those communities are needed.
There's lots of things that need to be done to fix our inner cities.

The problem here I see is they will once again focus on the wrong areas... Instead of focusing on family values and the problems of drug addiction, they will focus on guns. The guns aren't the problem.. The culture is.....

While it's possible I saw no one in the article blame guns. It seems to me the only real blame was put on providing bad examples for others.
