If one doesn't want health insurance, one should not be penalized for it.

Not cool.
Not having insurance will carry a fine. That fine is roughly around $95 per month for a single person, or 1% of your yearly salary, whichever is higher. That is the first year, after that it goes up each year to a certain cap.

The part people get mixed up is they don't realize the "per month" part as some have thought it was only $95 for the first year.

May be cheaper to just pay the fine though, with all the changes going through, the price of insurance will keep rising, though the question will be will getting the cheapest insurance plan you can find be cheaper than paying the fine once it reaches its cap.

Either way, the government has found a new way to force money out of everyone.

"Either way, the government has found a new way to force money out of everyone."

Fair's fair. People who were uninsured had already found a way to force money out of the government.. and taxpayers.. by having other people pay for their health care.

The problem lies with young people who assume they will never get sick and never die and think they don't need health insurance. Sorry, kids, time to budget for health insurance even if it cuts into your budget for beer and parties...

Sounds like you voted for obama. Be careful what you wish for.

Perhaps you should read the law, the fines are annual, not monthly. Well, never mind, it's obvious you don't want to know what it says. Suffice it to say, the ACA is a Republican plan from the Heritage Foundation. The Repubs are not upset with the plan, they are upset that it was the Dems that passed it and a Dem Prez that signed it. That is what the whole uproar is about. The Repubs have just talked a lot of people into being mad about the politics, not the HC Law.

How many republicans voted for the plan again?

You can try and pass the blame to the other party; just shows how far democrats are running from Obamacare.

If McCain had been elected and had the Congressional majorities that Obama had, it would be the Dems screaming how bad the HC Law is. For a long time Presidents of both Parties have been trying to pass a HC Law of substance. It could not be done until the Congressional majorities were attained. Are you familiar with politics at all?

You are one cold individual ? Hope you never ever get to a point of daily survival most Americans are going through right now we don't have the luxury of printing our own money like Obama is doing.

There were men in the senate buying cars and getting the rebate on cash for clunkers.... everyone looking for a freebee today.
The younger generations will have to pay for every freebee given as the debt grows. Someone has to pay the bills and the taxpayers which are the younger generations will be scalped and their paychecks dwindle and the cost of living skyrockets .

The fine grows larger as the years go by.. in two years it will be @ $700 or so.. it willl get higher and force people to get insurance as the fine will then be as high as the insurance Children will be fined as well. Check out the link.

The way I look at it is this...

There are people now who pay little to nothing because their employers pick up the tab. Fewer and fewer people are getting that option and finding that they can't get it on their own because they have acne or were depressed once or have an actual medical conditions that has been diagnosed. So those who don't pay much are at odds with those who must pay $1000+ a month if they can even find someone willing to give it to them. This can't go on. There is not going to be a fun, happy, cheap way to fix this problem and make everyone smile is there? No. This is a step, and when National Health comes rolling out in the not-so-distant future people will be more receptive than they are now because they may have already started paying a bit for the medical coverage they think they deserve.
