They can create their own moon fed reserve up there too and print up as many moon bucks as they want and all sit around and blather about how rich they are. lol
In fact I do own a deed to several craters on the moon. I hope the parts to be a National Park are not in the areas I already own. I would expect the senate has done a proper abuters check
They want to preserve Neil Armstrong's footprints so no other nation can get up there first and erase them. Sounds like a plan to me.
Quote:
The legislation would have to adhere to the international Outer Space Treaty of 1967, which was signed by 101 other countries and states that “outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means.”
Therefore, without claiming ownership of the moonscape itself, the bill would designate the artifacts left behind such as the landing gear, footprints, moon walking gear and roving hardware as a “National Historical Park.”
I don't see anything wrong with preserving such a legacy.

All kidding aside, that's not a bad idea at all. I'm not sure the National Park system is the right tool for the job, but the descent stages and surroundings should be left pristine.

Well the National Park system does take care of things like the Liberty Bell and the Statue of Liberty, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
I dunno, but you know there was a time when the rest of the world looked up to America as innovators and risk takers.
Now the only question ever asked of an endeavor is "how much?". Sometimes the money isn't the be all end all.
