They love the parts of the Constitution that fit their agendas. They ignore the other parts exactly like they do logic and reason.

Actually they are in front of Congress begging for Congress to losen regulations on them. The only money the USPS receives from the taxpayer is for things like reinbursement of postage for libraries and shipping for the blind, which Congress mandates..

p.s. its United States Postal Services, not United Postal Services

Actually what the Constitution says is that Congress shall etablish the Post Office, it says nothing about who should manage it. Thats how they can negotiate contracts with private carriers and even real estate investors who own most of the properties the USPS uses.

Its no different than the US Government managing the military, but contracting out services to the private industry.

I'm generally a fan of the USPS, and regularly defend it in threads like this as being one of the few things our government does that is actually constitutional, but I have to correct you on this. The government is not obliged nor is it required to provide the service. The Constitution merely gives them the authority to do so. There's a big difference.

UPS and Fedex have already said they can't run the postal routes.

I believe that it's illegal for a private company to compete with the USPS for regular mail delivery. I've heard that from multiple places. I've gone looking for the specific law, but wading through the U.S. Code can be... difficult.

But clearly a private entity can because the USPS already does, and their an independent agent of the federal government and doesnt receive taxpayer funding.

As I recall FedEx and UPS were specifically asked if the could take over the home delivery service and their response was no.

Thats because they arent designed for door to door services, that doesnt mean it cant be done. Once again, IT ALREADY IS being done by the USPS. so why you think someone else couldnt come in and just take over an open viable business is a mystery.
