The biggest difference between the USA and Aus is the mindsets of both countries. We believe in a fair go for all and I am not sure the USA could deal with that when you have waiters on a hourly rate of $2 in some states, and one is rather sure they do not get health care as a $2 waiter. The argument one cannot deal fairly with all one's citizens holds no water either in a rich country like the USA. This PDF sets out how we make our system work, and no the wealthy do not get any cash from taxpayers for doing nothing. http://www.cis.org.au/images/stories...-alexander.pdf
What are you talking about? We have a "fair go for all" you just have to do something in your life to get it.
I don't know why people have such an issue with people living the life they earned for themselves.
We have already covered how cost of living eats up the grain of a higher minimum wage.
I was referring to their welfare state. Australia spends more on their bottom 20% and less on their top 20% than we do. They also have better training programs and cheaper education systems so if you are poor Australia is an amazing place to live. If you are rich then the USA is an amazing place to live.
They have a economy much like Detroit's in their hay-day with china being their consumer of a mining dominated economy. I would bet that many in US at one time said Detroit has it right ;dominate one thing.

They just found oil too. Their oil reserve is estimated to be larger than Saudi Arabia's.
Australia raised their minimum wage to AUD 16.37 (U.S. $15) recently, and their unemployment rate is only 5.7%. Australian's also have business-friendly environment, weeks of paid vacation, national healthcare & they work less.
U.S. current minimum wage is $7.25 (Some states slightly higher) with 7.6% unemployment rate.
Isn't it time to raise the U.S. minimum wage? It is very low for 2013!
Higher wage = More $ to spend.
No, prices wouldn't necessary go up. Perhaps maybe slightly smaller paycheck for multimillionaire and billionaire CEO's?
First is a clue and the second, prices would surely rise.
