I can't speak for other countries, but as an American here in Italy, I can tell you that the media pumps Hollywood flicks day in and day out. So people are actually "programmed" to think that if you move to NYC, you'll get rich and have a blond.
In reality, I think most Italians would not be happy in the US: no universal healthcare, not much vacation, crappy food (I mean processed, canned, artificial, etc.), the black-and-white mentality, the oppressive police-state atmosphere, the love for guns... There's really not much to be had for an Italian moving the US, imo. Life is better here, aisi..
There's actually more "freedom" here than in the US.
Peace!

There are lots of Italians living in America actually. However, it is easier to become rich and successful in America than it is in Europe.

Er, sorry, but you aren't 100% right... there are actually more italians in NYC, Boston, SF, SD, LA (who appreciate living there) than americans in Rome, Milan and Naples
The US doesn't get that many immigrants from western Europe anymore.
San Francisco is full of western Europeans these days. I don't know if they're students or techies or what, but you can't swing a dead chinchilla in my neighborhood anymore without hitting a gaggle of resident French, Italians, or Germans.

In fact, the western Europeans who relocate to USA tend to prefer the most progressive areas...

but i'm not comparing italians there to americans here. the issue is the lifestyle. italy and the us are very different, and italians don't share many core american values. as i already posted.

Ok, but I wouldn't take for granted that one place offers always a better quality of life...
I mean: there are countless bad places in Italy... having lived in NYC, Milan and Rome I can tell you that I vastly prefer the Big Apple over Rome and Milan

That is because they find success in getting a free education in Europe and then moving over to the US debt free cause its easy for debt free, educated foreigners to get rich in the US. So again, direct comparison's are not so simple, and its easy to see why they would want to move here. Now if they started offering free educations for US citizens we might see some opposing migrations.
