Given the recent huge public spectacle called a trial in FL and the reaction to the verdict is our justice system in trouble?

Do we trust that the jury of our peers can make the right decision in the end or don't we?

Is it now time to go back to mob rule and frontier justice?

No, the legal system is fine in this country. It is naive to think people will agree with every decision.

In this case, the justice system did exactly what is was suppose to do. If you recall, the police chief said that there was no basis for arrest because no crime had been committed. He was then removed from his job so that the prosecutor could gain some political points. (We had a prosecutor here in IL. do the same thing a couple of years ago just before an election. He accused a father of a missing child of kidnapping and killing his daughter. When it was proven that he set the guy up for political gain, he lost the election and has not held office since.) This whole trial was a farce and to reinforce this point, our great President and his "Crook in charge of Justice" ,Eric Holder (Who should be on trial himself) are teaming up with a black radical loudmouth, Al (not so) Sharpton to pursue a "Civil" case to stir up trouble and support from black voters. In this respect, our justice system IS broken.

I feel for Zimmerman. He was a victim three times over. Once at the hands of Martin who beat him, then at the hands of our legal system and now the court of public opinion. How he's the one on trial when Martin beat him, gave him two black eyes, a broken nose and beat his head on the pavement hard enough to rip skin is beyond me. I'd shoot too.

And if Martin had a gun he could of killed that man he was fighting off rather than been shot by his attacker.

The Jurys are humans with human frailties and strengths. They make good decisions, they make mistakes.
OJ and Casey Anthony walked, I didn't hear calls for tearing down the system then.

Judges have legislated from the bench forever, they get drunk with power and make stupid mistakes or calls, that is why I think they should be term limited, especially the federal ones. With a lifetime appointment they are answerable to no one. We do need a mechanism to remove them when they decide they are little gods on the bench.

Our system has the capacity to be the best in history, it's main weakness is that it is applied by humans so sometimes it is misused, and sometimes the jury sees through the hyerbole and media frenzy and still reaches the correct verdict.

Our system of courts isn't predicated on justice, but on equal application of the law. If the burden of proof isn't met the jury is bound to set free the defendant, no matter what color they are or whether or not the news media agrees with it.

It is supposed to Prosecution of crime not Persecution of individuals.

Sometimes the system fails, other times like with Zimmerman, they get it right.

The legal system worked as it should. Cant convict somebody without proof. The proof wasn't there. The political and media side is beyond effed up though.

I'll agree, the prosecution did a poor job with something that should of been an easy conviction.

Martin wasn't the one being attacked. The autopsy showed he had no injuries except those to his fist from beating Zimmerman and the gunshot wound that killed him while Zimmerman had a broken nose, two black eyes and lacerations to the back of his head from having his head pounded against the pavement. The only conclusion you can draw from this is that Martin was beating Zimmerman.
