Exciting news for conservatives: 4th grader brings gun to school, points it at classmates (insurance, politicians)

Mentally ill would be those conservatives who argue for such unrestricted firearms distribution so as to include kids. And we've seen the threads. If you're one of those people (and you just might be), then please look in a mirror and repeat exactly what you just wrote. Thanks for playing!
Are you telling me you didn't go to school where there were kids that were obviously raised in bad environments with abuse, lack of discipline or whatnot and that they didn't get in trouble any more than everybody else?
I think that many just lack the cultural diversity allowing them to understand that in rural areas kids are often taught responsibility at an earlier age. I had a rifle at age 9, somehow I never took it to school or pointed it at someone because I'd been taught right from wrong and gun safety etc....although others seem to think that it must just be luck and couldn't possibly result from being taught?
Being taught how to be responsible with a firearm does not equal being "raised right". It only means you were "raised correctly" (according to social norms) as to how to handle a firearm. Which is fine, but I'm not sure how that translates into public policy. Not every household with a gun has a family who will raise their child to have the same responsibility toward firearms as your parents clearly did. Do you object to that?
1. It's no longer the 1800s. We don't live on the frontier anymore.
2. Assuming broad-based child firearms-bearing upon the premise of them being "raised right" obviously makes for idiotic policy.
My example goes to show an example of an 8 year old that responsibly owned a firearm and provided for their family with it. If you can't deal with Ms. Oakley's timeless story I can only imagine you are some sort of mysoginist.
Your 2nd comment is just straw-manning as the kid illegally got hold of an illegal gun and then used it illegally.....
I see the leftist fanatics are still trying desperately to pretend conservative policies, not leftist Democrat policies, make this kind of thing happen.
If they couldn't tell lies about their opponents, they would have nothing to say at all.

No it wouldn't. It would include this thread.
Feel free to post links to these "CCW for 4 year olds" threads you speak of.
If they exist, they are so far from commonplace as to be considered the fringe of the fringe. And I doubt they exist.
Because clearly conservatives think people should violate the law? You guys are embarassing..
As far as I can tell, you guys don't even think there should be any laws pertaining to guns. The Constitutional utopia according to conservatives when it comes to guns appears to be a complete free-for-all.
Maybe I've missed it, but I have *NEVER* seen a conservative on this forum state that any form of gun control has a valuable role to play in our society, even as we maintain our Constitutional tradition of allowing adult citizens a path under which they can legitimately own a gun.
Mandatory firearm insurance is the only way to fix this problem. Kid brings the parent's gun to school (an enormous risk)? Insurance policy is either dropped or the premium skyrockets. Sorry, you lose. And once you're dropped from any insurance, it can be difficult and/or expensive to get a new policy elsewhere.
Start making people PAY for the risk of owning a gun and you'll begin to see more responsible behaviour.

I thought 90% of people supported background checks? What happened to that?

What law do you propose we put in place to keep the kid that illegally took an illlegal gun from his mother and then used it illegally?
The crux of the article and thread is about the age of the offender.
Guns are serious business and responsibly allowing a 9-year old access to one requires proper training and parental supervision in accordance with the childs maturity, mentality etc etc.
In this case, you have an OP trying to somehow malign people that were raised to make better choices than the youth in the story....by using a youth whose mom kept a .45 with the serial filed off around the house. Clearly there is something fudged up about that kids home environment.
As for public policy, I'm not weighing in on that....I just thought that the OP's selection of this case was nothing more than straw-manning.

Another bad idea.
I think you should have to buy insurance before you post on the Internet. Your kid says something slanderous about someone on line your insurance policy is dropped. Sorry, you lose. And once you're dropped from any insurance, it can be difficult and/or expensive to get a new policy elsewhere and you'll never be able to post on the Internet and we will never have to listen to your horrible ideas.
