I think MEN standing up to guard the purity of their daughters is an
honorable thing.
Meh. I think purity is vastly overrated.

Haha... me too.

I felt no different before losing my virginity than I did afterwards, and haven't regretted that decision since. Sex is fun, after all! And considering I am now almost 37 and have yet to marry, I feel it would be sad to still be a virgin today - no offense to anyone who is a virgin at this age, but it's not something I would want for myself. To each his/her own, though.

Yep. Why do you think teen pregnancy rates are so high in the Bible Belt? And before anyone brings up the lower abortion rates, I'm not comparing them to other areas - just saying that if preaching and encouraging abstinence actually worked, their rates of teen pregnancies would be near ZERO. Far from it.

I've also heard that anal sex is quite popular among these "purity ball" attendees and supporters... forget where I read/saw that, but these kids admitted that since they can't have "real sex," they just did it that way instead. With no protection, since after all, you can't get preggers!! (may have been the same documentary you watched)

My parents waited until marriage, and after their divorce (29 years later), my mother confided in me that she wished she had "tried on more shoes" before marriage. She actually said I was lucky, for having grown up in an era where it wasn't so shameful to have pre-marital sex. I'm glad my parents got married, obviously, but her perspective so many years later - and after re-entering the dating field - was rather interesting to me. A little TMI, but still interesting!

I remember a documentary I once saw called "Let's Talk About Sex." They were comparing kids' behaviour and attitudes towards sex in the Netherlands and the Bible Belt. They asked the question "How would you feel if you knew your date was carrying condoms?" The kids in the Netherlands didn't understand the question. "Huh? Why would anyone be stupid enough to go on a date without condoms?"
The kids in the Bible Belt were diametrically different. "I'd think he/she was ****/player, and I'd want nothing to do with them."
Then they get knocked up.

Bingo! That perfectly summarizes the issue, imo.

Hmmmm... wonder who he/she is? Didn't notice the one post thing, but they're awfully presumptuous for a "new poster."
