I'm not worried about the gov. mandating 5 weeks of unpaid vacation, I'm very worried about the gov. funding many people taking 52 week paid vacations.

Employees paid by the hour are paid OT for hours worked in excess of 40. Most hourly employees love the opportunity for OT.

I am unaware of any employer that requires an employee to work 365 days a year.

The Congressional calendar consists of 126 days in 2013.

Most Congressmen spent the rest of their time fund raising/campaigning for reelection.

While not in favor of government mandated vacation time, it's interesting to see that even Mexico mandates such time.

In most of Europe, this is paid, but now we are asking for unpaid since many people were against it being paid unfortunately.

America is the only western nation in the world where there is no law mandating any paid/unpaid days off from work. Employers are legally allowed to let you work 365 days a year! Thought slavery ended?
Sure let them, and then explain to my employees, why they went from full time to part time, and now have less money.

I really really wish people would stop referring to Europe as one country. Sweden is different from Portugal which is different from Germany which is different from the
European part of Turkey.

I blame it on the united states mentality, people here seem to forget it is a bunch of different countries with a bunch of different governments.

Should there be more paid or unpaid days off ? Maybe, but it isn't up to the government. Keep the government doing what they are supposed to do: keep us safe, keep our roads in good condition, help everyone get some education, keep our streets safe, but don't let them dictate what private companies can and can not do. Perks or bennies should be left to the company.

Between this idea and Obamacare the US would end up with a permanent part time class.
