Not all liberal cities are economic engines. Detroit was an economic engine when it was far less liberal; now that it is the nation's most liberal city, it is one of the nation's most destitute cities, and is losing population at a rapid rate.

Exactly!

Honestly, I don't care...I'm comfortable in my beliefs that I can live anywhere...I love Denver to death and thinking of moving back-and they are pretty lib...but guess what? It's a great place to live.

Here's an interesting piece pointing to the New Left and how urban poor/working class are by some measures doing worse and worse in the big, Democratic-controlled cities:

Barack Obama

This should be obvious, for example, look at the Chicago population decline caused by a mass exodus of working families and being replaced by single yuppies who make the neighborhood "cool" and consequently drive up rent, property values and general COL. The upside of this gentrification is that cool/hip neighborhoods will then be frequented by more people/tourists, which can stimulate business and create better jobs and better wages for the local residents. It's a catch-22. Frustrating.

The liberal cities are very expensive to live in due to the regulations and restrictions.
All in the name of the betterment of society of course.

My question is, if you are out of work and living in poverty, yet you want to earn a good job with a decent, steady income to provide a quality standard of living, would it be better to be living in, or be seeking to move to, one of the most liberal cities, or one of the most conservative cities?
How did they come up with this list, Provo is not what i would see as conservative nor is Allentown.

I think this research is confusing liberal/conservative with democrat/republican. The cities in the liberal list I think are cities with people that vote democrat but don't consider themselves to be liberal or progressive. These are voters that vote democrat because of their situation but are otherwise socially and culturally conservative...

Big liberal cities have a high COL.

If you can snag a really good paying job....you can shield yourself from the filth and crime of those areas.....pretty good living. But if you are living in a Lib area....and not making a really good income, yikes, you are living a pretty nasty life.

Conservative areas tend to have a lower COL. They can be nasty....but you can also find decent areas even if you are not making a lot of money.

This ^

Chicago, Seattle, New York City, Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles are all some pretty liberal cities, THESE are the economic engines of our nation.

Even the large metros in the conservative areas of the country, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix, Austin, Memphis, Indianapolis Charlotte, etc are left leaning cities. You're hard pressed to find a LARGE city that is conservative in nature.
