Strange they squared off the hull below the bow which limits them to one bow anchor. Heavy seas bow on will really give them a jolt. They may want to rethink that one.

I noticed the bow design. Lot of bow lift when it rams a rouge 40 foot roller.
That is going to be a jolt. A flat bottom in the surf, would have a smoother ride.

The Japanese have been designing ships for centuries. I'd bet they know / knew what they are doing.

Looks like they no longer need our presence there. Not that they ever did.

No; I too believe their intent to use primarily as a helo platform but in a pinch it would serve as an alternate if needed.

They've negated the knife edge effect of cutting through those large rollers by putting a "punt" bow on the thing.

I agree with you, when a roller goes under that; it's got no cutting effect and MUST rise and take a beating while doing so.

Can you imagine trying to maintain speed in good size swells pushing water in front of you with that bow?

United Kingdom (1) - plus building 2 fleet carriers
United States (10+9*) - gradually building new carriers to replace existing ones

* In addition to the new Izumo class, Japan also has two Hyuga class destroyers which are basically very light carriers - mostly helicopters. What this means is that basically Japan will have 4 light carriers.

That thing looks pretty awesome. Japan needs to keep building these and its giant attack robots to keep China from stealing more islands.

It's probably one of those Transformer things. It will unfold into a 1000' carrier complete with bath house and pachinko parlor.
