The friendliest US city I have ever visited is Pittsburgh. Solidly democratic.

Actually, we have a little under 12%. But hey, we also have 27% of the welfare recipients. We still excel at some things here!

WE are also 20% of the US gdp, down from 24%. That's why we became the target of liberal socialists in the 70s. They tend to chase the money, and then burn through it. I doubt half of our representatives were even born here. Boxer in NY, Pelosi in Maryland...etc. Brown and Feinstein were both born in SF, which makes perfect sense. We actually live in Califrancisco.

Check your facts hayseed, both parties switched platforms after the civil war, and only southern "Dixiecrat" opposed the civil rights act. I don't care if Jersey is unfriendly, we're not a bunch of knuckle-dragging racists.

Good post. 4 inaccurate clauses out of 5. The one accurate thing you said is probably " I don't care if Jersey is unfriendly...."

LBJ split the democratic party in the 1960's by embracing the civil rights movement, effectively cutting off over 75% of white southern democrats for the next two generations. The 1960's were the last days of the Dixiecrats, their closest living relative would be a blue dog democrat, but even they're rare in today's times, you're hard pressed to find a white liberal in the south.

No regions of this country are more or less friendlier than any other region.

This country has the same cross section of a-holes in every region.

And please southerners, don't start up with that southern hospitality nonsense and how the south is friendlier.

That way, i won't have to post some of those 50's and 60's videos of Civil Rights protests.

Jimmy Carter swept the South in 1976. Reagan also swept the South (except GA) in 1980, and swept it entirely in 1984. Bill Clinton won at least half of the South in 1992.

The truth is that the South has never really marched in lockstep. The Blue Dogs were decimated in 2010 due to their support for Obamacare. There were 54 Blue Dogs in March 2010 when Obamacare was enacted. Now there are perhaps 15.

I think it's pretty coincidental. Plus, no state in America is truly "liberal" with the possible exceptions of Vermont and Hawaii. California, Oregon, New York, Connecticut etc are less conservative than Kansas, Mississippi and Indiana, but they're still far from being genuinely left wing or liberal.

My city, Philadelphia - the home of Rocky, cheesesteak sandwiches and train wrecks - is pretty liberal but not that friendly.

However ... I am friendly!!!!

If you come visit me, I'll show you around.
