It has gotten this bad in the windy city? No wonder kids don't want to go to school there. They have to plan for the return of children to school like they did for the NATO conference? What the hell is going on in that city? Oh wait never mind democrats have been in control for years. The transformation has occurred in Detroit and Chicago is not far behind.

"Chicago Public Schools officials today released maps of routes where security will be provided for the thousands of children going to new schools this year.

The so-called "safe passage" routes are designed to smoothly shift students from 47 schools being closed this year to nearby schools. (Click HERE to see maps)
Parents have voiced concern about children crossing rival gang territories and passing empty buildings and vacant lots. Some of them have complained that CPS has been late releasing the maps.

Training for safe passage workers, originally targeted by CPS for this week, is now set to begin next Thursday.

CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett said the maps are being mailed to every student affected by closings as well as being posted on district’s website.

“They are not embedded in stone,” she said. “It’s a daily communication, daily opportunity. Where we know there may be an incident, we trust the Chicago police department and our safety and security to make sure we are informed and updated regularly.”

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said the same police unit that planned for NATO is planning for the back to school week when students from 47 closed elementary schools will be walking to designated neighborhood schools. He said police will be patrolling the routes. District commanders will have specific plans for each route."

They are releasing the maps because students are being reassigned to new schools and to get to school some kids might have to go through gang territory.

Chicago is on a completely different level than Detroit was/is.

Why don't the cops clean up the gangs first instead of wasting 8 mill on maps nobody will follow? Or just give the kids guns so they can fight back? Oops can't do that in chicago.

Good for them to try and work out a way to get kids to school and back without being murdered in the streets.

I can't imagine living in such a place. You have to pray every day you don't get shot in your front yard, on your porch, going and coming from school, into your bedroom while you sleep.

The gangs are fragmented right now. The FBI locked up most of the gang leaders and cut off their outside communication so now it's just a bunch of young leaders that are more reckless than they use to be.

Chicago Shootings: 8 Wounded Citywide In Just Four Hours Of Gunfire Overnight Friday

"Police have no one in custody in any of the shootings."

Wouldn't it have been cheaper and safer to use the buses from the 47 closed schools and bus the kids to the new school ?
Am I being too logical here ?

Democrats hate buses it seems. They didn't use em in the Katrina hurricane and now won't use em to take kids to school.
