I would guess leading a irresponsible lifestyle could be grounds. Would you give an alcoholic a liver transplant? Actually I bet they do if they prove they have stopped drinking. Or if your Micky Mantle.
Irresponsible lifestyle? You were never in a fight when you were 15?
Absolutely no history of medical non-compliance, it seems. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.
wait. there was no history because.. his mom says so?
Quote:
Adult transplant surgeon Dr. David Dean from Piedmont Healthcare said non compliance could mean a patient has a history of drugs or alcohol, or that the patient has not shown up for their doctor's appointment. http://www.11alive.com/news/article/...ransplant-list
You don't know what the kid was doing. Hey I don't make up the rules. You are going off what the parents are saying so nobody knows what the situation really is. He's on the list so that is that. You should be happy for your new victim of choice. He is a victim no more. Good work. Now scour the intrawebs and look for the next victim of oppression to champion.

No, because he was asymptomatic and it came on suddenly. Nobody knew he was sick until just a few weeks ago. He showed up at the hospital with SOB (shortness of breath) and chest pains.
There was nothing to be non-compliant with.
It's not like he was sick for years and refused to take his medication.

Yes, I am happy he's now on the list. Thank you for your concern about my well-being.
I'm just reporting on all the stories I've seen on the news, up here and down there.
That being said, is being arrested, getting into a schoolyard fight or wearing an ankle bracelet grounds to deny life-saving treatment?
Who told you about the schoolyard fight?
Your basic schoolyard fight doesn't get you house arrest.
Seems like with a juvenile, you are hearing just the moms version of the truth because nobody else can say anything.
I'm not saying the kid shouldn't be on the transplant list, I'm just saying my BS detector is humming loudly over "he got house arrest at age 15 for defending his brother". Suspended yeah, not house arrest.
There are 2 different discussions here:
1) Do you buy the story hearing only 1-side?
2) What should transplant list criteria be, considering that giving him or someone else the heart means someone else didn't get it. I personally would like to see more transplant drives.

I get tired of everybody trying to find a "racist" angle to everything. Atlanta is historically well over 1/2 black.
To mention black implies that the hospital etc. are inherently racist.
Imagine if you accidentally hit a pedestrian with your car and the local paper runs a headline "Mr. Welschmerz runs over jewish pedestrian" or "gay couple" or "mexican immigrant"? It get's old.

It's Ms. Weltschmerz, thank you very much.
(And it's "gets", not "get's". You're very welcome.)
I'm just happy this kid is now on the list.

The factual evidence is that you've been putting forth the idea that race and later finances are keeping a kid off the transplant list solely based upon the commentary of the kids mom.
The city is historically black.
Your rebuttal is to point out that I misused an apostrophe on an internet forum post.
If she's telling the truth and he has no history of taking medication, what were they basing their decision on?
Maybe the ability to pay?
How do you go from needing no medication to needing a transplant?
