This is America, we speak English! Our judicial system has no business promoting the language of another country. This judge needs to be put on probation..
Are you advocating that instead of receiving probation, the person should have been sent to jail instead?

Do you think that jails and prisons should have no educational, vocational, or rehabilitative programs, and that convicts should just be warehoused, and learn nothing but criminal skills inside the "Big House" which will cause them, upon their release, to reoffend?

Harrier thinks that whenever possible, options other than jail time should be utilized.

Harrier thinks that prison, when necessary, should be a place that a person leaves better than they entered.

Do you disagree?

So? Leave him alone. He's allowed to have a different opinion from time to time. He's a free man, he doesn't need to conform to your rigid ideology. Why do you think I left the wingnut faction of the GOP? Too many rigid people like you who only think in black and white and absolutist terms

Sounds like to me that you're a racist. Considering you, supposedly speak, 4 different languages, none of them being Spanish according to the little tidbit at the end of your post. Would you like to air out your racism, prejudices, and/or Hispanophobia now?
Spanish isn't a race, hispanic isn't a race -- so playing the race card is rather absurd.

Please explain how they are forcing kids to learn Spanish where you live? Because as far as I know, most school districts in the US provide a choice of languages for students to pick from to fulfill curriculum requirements

Uh - this is the United States of America - many languages are part of our collective heritage.

One of those languages is Spanish, so your assertion that the judge is asking the defendant to learn the language of another country is entirely false.

Hispanic isn't a race, but the vast majority of people who are Hispanic that are constantly being bashed, tarred, and feathered on this forum happen to be of very brown extraction, oftentimes heavily mixed with indigenous background. Ergo, the race card is very valid.

Mandarin would have been more useful.

Unfortunately, most people find mastering 3000+ unique characters to be quite the daunting task, unless they were schooled in it from Kindergarten. I endorse that idea

Yep.

Harrier had a choice of Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese.

He chose Spanish because he planned to move to California after graduation and correctly predicted that learning the language would be useful.

Now the Seattle area neighborhood where Harrier lived during high school has a substantial Hispanic population, with Mexican taquerias, Salvadoran pupusarias, and tiendas abounding, and signs in Spanish on every corner on the major commercial strip.

Harrier chose wisely, and can now live either here in L.A. County or move back to Seattle, and communicate with nearly everybody.

Hispanics aren't the only immigrants but they seem to be the only ones who refuse to ever learn English.

Plenty of other kinds of immigrants but they all seem more capable of assimilating and more curious to learn our language.
