I'm being for real here.

With what the Spanish did to the Indians and Black slaves in LatAm: why do the people there in 2013; especially in Mexico and Guatemala, try to identify with the white Spaniard in language and culture but in Spain, most "brown" people are looked down on.

What do most Americans with European ancestry call themselves white? If you answer that question, that'll answer the question you are asking.

Karen: "If you're from Africa... how come you're white?"

Gretchen: "Oh my God, Karen! You can't go around asking people how come they're white!"

Denzel Washington as Steve Biko in Cry Freedom:

Judge: Why do you people call yourselves black? You look more brown than black.
Steve Biko: Why do you call yourselves white? You look more pink than white.

Spain's poor treatment of them does not change the fact that the country is a huge influence in the culture there. If Spain had not colonized central and South America, the current inhabitants would most likely not speak Spanish or practice Catholicism. The architecture would be vastly different too.

Science currently has us all originating from the East African Rift Valley.

We're all African. Problem solved.

It's how they try to seem more European than they are. People from Spain generally don't call themselves "hispanics". They'll usually tell you they are Spanish or European.

Indigenous people in the Latin American countries refer to themselves by their Nation (Guarani, Tupi, etc.) or state (Chilean, Paraguayan, etc). People in Latin America of mixed Spanish/European ancestry will usually refer to themselves by state (Colombiano, Mexicano, Argentino, etc) or as Latino. Hispanic is a denominym larger applied by English speakers to describe any ethnicity that speaks Spanish as a native language.
