Floride is a toxin, yet we continue to dump it into the water supply. Americans are seriously deficient in Iodine, and Floride and Iodine are from the same family. Why not kill 2 birds with one stone and replace floridation with iodination in the water supply?

"On July 29, 2013, the Supreme Court of Israel ruled that Israel must stop adding fluoride into public water supplies in one year, following a a decision on fluoride’s potential toxicity to humans by the Israeli health minister. Israel is not the odd man out. Only 369 million of the world’s 7 billion people drink water which is intentionally fluoridated:

Iodine is the most important element in our bodies by far. But what is important is fluoride is in the same chemical family as iodine and can replace iodine in the body if the iodine is deficient.

Some countries are fluoridating their water supply for the theoretical benefits of fluoride helping to prevent cavities.

Iodine is added to table salt. Its also in seaweed, fish, etc. Iodine deficiency is not a huge problem in the United States.

Maybe your information source should be checked?

The Silent Epidemic of Iodine Deficiency

By Nancy Piccone
The Silent Epidemic of Iodine Deficiency

In 2008, researchers concerned about the growing threat of iodine deficiency analyzed 88 samples1 of iodized table salt—the main supply of this critical micronutrient for most people.

Less than half of those tested contained amounts of iodine sufficient for optimal health.

Coupled with the trend of reduced salt consumption, rates of iodine deficiency are now reaching epidemic levels.

In the developed world, iodine deficiency has increased more than fourfold over the past 40 years. Nearly 74% of normal, “healthy” adults may no longer consume enough iodine.

In this article, the latest data on this dangerous trend are presented. You will learn of iodine deficiency’s profound impact on overall health. You will discover iodine’s vital role in thyroid function and its link to obesity, cognitive impairment, heart disease, psychiatric disorders, and various forms of cancer. You will also find out how iodine can help ward off breast cancer and fibrocystic breast disease.

Iodine can wear out your thyroid. It's somewhat self regulating in salt, but it wouldn't be in water intake. The first sign of too much iodine intake would be pain in your thyroid area. Why replace fluoride with anything?

Good thing its also in all dairy products, eggs and soy products. It's also in prenatal vitamins so that pregnant women get enough.

But uh, yeah, super scary supplement magazine is super scary. It's almost as if they want you to...buy more supplements!

Fluoride depresses thyroid function. It's not a problem for me to connect the dots that Synthroid (prescribed for under-active thyroid function) as one of the most prescribed medications in the USA and that the USA's water supply is >70% fluoridated.

Why medicate the water supply with ANYTHING? Your "really good idea" violates a basic human right: choosing to opt out of medical intervention altogether.

Besides, water fluoridation is an insane concept when most people already exceed recommended fluoride intake through their daily food and beverage intakes. Any competent medical professional knows today that whatever so-called "benefit" from fluoride to the teeth is from topical application only -- not systemic (drinking water) ingestion.

Are you are misreading or are you nodding in agreement? This person seems to be saying why put anything in the water. Just take the fluoride out.

I agree people should not be medicated w/o their permission. There is a push for localities to put it up for vote.

The chemistry of replacing F with I doesn't work. Just look at the electrongativites of Calcium, Flourine and Iodine. I wouldn't be surprised if iodine makes tooth enamel softer and more water soluable!

Beyond dumb.

What are you going to cook with -- Gatorade? What are you going to shower in -- Perrier?

Ever put in a well? Some places have no ground water. Some places it's not legal. Some places it takes a mountain of paperwork and a larger mountain of money. Even if you drill a well you can come up dry.

Next brilliant idea . . . .
